Vice/Protégé: Maintenance

Three digit numbers (example 011) indicate o-ring sizes. Reference the manual as needed.

Overview:
Recommended Lube:
    • Dow55: Specifically designed for use with O-rings & causes them to swell to assist in maintaining a better seal. This can be used throughout your marker (do not use on your bolt). Will require more frequent maintenance.

    • Dow33: Can be used on everything except the Ram Sleeve o-rings& your bolt. Increases time required between maintenance intervals.

    • Tri-Flow Oil (or other synthetic Paintball oil): This is the only thing you should use on your bolt o-rings. One drop rubbed in will be plenty.

    • For more info on what & how much lube to use, check out the following thread on PBNation: The Ultimate Intimidator Lube Thread

Between Games:
  • Clean your barrel

  • Wipe down the outside of your marker

  • Remove your bolt and inspect the o-rings for damage and replace if needed. Put a drop of Tri-Flow oil on each o-ring and rub it in to coat each one evenly.

    • Bolt o-rings: 015 x3

  • Remove your bolt and inspect the o-rings for damage and replace if needed. Put a drop of Tri-Flow oil on each o-ring and rub it in to coat each one evenly.

    • Bolt o-rings: 015 x3

  • Wipe down the outside of your marker, if needed.

After 1-2 Cases of Paint:
After 2-4 Cases of Paint:
  • Repeat the items above

  • Ram Cap: With the bolt out, remove the ram cap and ram from the rear of the marker.

    • Note: The ram cap is located below the bolt. Use a small allen key (or Bob's favorite, a chopstick) to push the ram out from the top if you have any problems removing it.

    • Inspect the Ram cap and Ram o-rings for damage and replace if needed. Wipe down the Ram with a rag to remove any dirt or lube and apply a small amount of Dow55 to the o-rings.

      • Ram Cap:

        • 1mm x 12mm (Vice – located on Ram Cap)

        • 1mm x 14mm (Protégé-located in Ram Sleeve)

      • Ram:

        • Front Ram o-ring: 006

        • Rear Ram o-ring: 011

        • Ram Sleeve (Protégé): 015

Maintenance Video:

Video quality is low, but it's still one of the best references you'll find on YouTube

  • Repeat the items above

  • Degas your marker and disconnect the macroline from the elbow fitting. Remove your High Pressure Regulator (aka HPR or 360 Inline reg) by unscrewing it from the body of your marker. Next, grab the reg and turn to unscrew the two halves of the regulator body. Once separated, remove the piston and inspect the piston o-ring and the piston itself for damage and replace if needed. Lube with Dow55 before reassembling. (Reference the following section in the manual for more detailed steps: Maintaining your HPR

    • HPR Piston o-ring: 016

After 10 Cases of Paint:
After 20 Cases of Paint:
  • Repeat the items above

  • Remove your Low Pressure Regulator (LPR) Piston and inspect the piston o-ring for damage and replace if needed. Lube with Dow55.

    • LPR Piston o-ring: 012 (Dura 70)

      • Tip for removing the LPR piston (Credit goes to Mike from Tech pb): Take a standard nail, put a very small drop of superglue on the head of the nail then press the nail against the top of the piston. Set the LPR down so it's upright and let the superglue dry for 5 mins. After it's dry, pull out the piston and gently break off the nail.

  • Remove the poppet and inspect the cup seal portion for any nicks or damage that would cause it not to seal correctly. If damaged, replace the poppet. Next, check the poppet shaft o-ring and replace if needed. Lube with Dow55.

    • Note: The cup seal is the white delrin piece on the front of the poppet shaft that looks like a plug.

    • Poppet Shaft o-ring: 006 (Dura 70)
